SIRDC and Destiny Electronics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 7 February 2006. The MOU signed at SIRDC would enable the two organizations to carry out joint projects in areas of mutual interest. Dr Robson Mafoti, the Chief Executive Officer of SIRDC and Mr Kenzias Chibota, the Managing Director of Destiny Electronics signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.

The two organizations are already working on two joint venture projects to develop a low cost portable radio and a solar water heating system.

Dr Mafoti described the MOU as formalizing a partnership between two organizations with complementary strengths. Destiny Electronics has strong business acumen while SIRDC is endowed with technical expertise. Because of this excellent synergy, the two organizations will develop products that will be difficult to beat on the market.

Also speaking soon after the signing ceremony, Mr Chibota said that long-term viability and sustainability of any business lies in local solutions and production for export. He urged his colleagues in industry to work with institutions like SIRDC to turns challenges into opportunities, stumbling blocks into stepping stones and down turns into up turns.

The occasion was witnessed by top management of both organizations.
