Professor Christopher Chetsanga

Professor Christopher Chetsanga was the inaugural Director General of SIRDC from its inception in 1993 to mid 2003. He is one of the two survivors from the previous Board.

Professor Chetsanga attained a PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1969 and immediately became a post-doctoral fellow in the same field at Harvard University until 1972.

Professor Chetsanga lectured in Biochemistry at the University of Michigan and then at the University of Zimbabwe until he became Director General of SIRDC which he set up from scratch.

Previously Professor Chetsanga was Chairman and Director of a number of Boards both locally and internationally, including being a member of the UNESCO Executive Board and Chairman of the Research Council of Zimbabwe. Currently he is the Chairman of the National Council on Higher Education and President of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences.
