Professor Phinias Makhurane - Chairman

Professor Phinias Makhurane is the Chairperson of the SIRDC Board. Professor Makhurane obtained a BSc degree in Mathematics and Physics at Rhonya University, MSc and PhD degrees in Solid State Physics at Sheffield University, UK and a Post-graduate Diploma in Geophysics at Upsala University in Sweden. He is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers.

Professor Makhurane was Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Zimbabwe for five years after which he was appointed the inaugural Vice Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He served in this capacity at NUST for 13 years until his appointment as Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, a position he holds to date.

Professor Makhurane received a Presidential Certificate of Distinction for contribution to Science and Technology Education.
