Mr Mathew Ranganai holds a B Sc (Hons) degree and an M Sc degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology from the University of Zimbabwe and Central South University of Technology (China), respectively.
He joined SIRDC as Research Scientist in the Biotechnology Research Institute in 1999 before moving to the National Metrology Institute in 2002 where he kick-started Chemical Metrology capacity for Zimbabwe before becoming the Institute Director in 2007.
Mr Ranganai has extensive knowledge and experience in Metrology through rigorous training and working visits to some of the world class National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) which included the National Institute of Standards & Science (NIST) in the USA, the National Metrology Institute of Germany, the National Metrology Institute of Finland, the National Metrology Institute of the Netherlands, the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in France.
In recognition of his vast experience in Metrology, Mr Ranganai was appointed Chairperson of the SADC Cooperation in Measurement Traceability (SADCMET), a grouping of all NMIs in the SADC region, from 2009 - 2011.
During the period 2000 – 2005, Mr Ranganai acquired Advanced Analytical Skills through technical programmes on Analytical Skills Development undertaken at the Universities of Helsinki (Finland), Surrey (UK) and Delft (the Netherlands).
Mr Ranganai has presented several technical and scientific papers at seminars, symposiums and workshops in countries such as Japan (Chiba Institute), Singapore, Finland (University of Helsinki), USA and the Netherlands just to mention, but a few.
Through the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Mr Ranganai has participated in various technical programmes in Switzerland, Sweden, Germany and Bulgaria, aimed at the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) through peaceful use of Chemistry.
Currently, Mr Ranganai is the OPCW country resource person and represents SIRDC on the Zimbabwe National Authority for the CWC as a consultant and he chairs the sub-committee on Compliance.
