INSTITUTE STAFF PROFILES:
M Ranganai – Director
Mr Ranganai holds an MSc (CSUT) and B-Tech
(UZ) in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology. In addition,
Mr Ranganai has had advanced analytical skills (AAS) development
with University of Helsinki (Finland), University of Surrey (UK)
and University of Delft (Holland). Mr Ranganai conducted a national
survey before developing chemical metrology capacity for the National
Metrology Institute (NMI) using knowledge gained through working
visits to NMIs around the globe e.g. Finland (NSL), Holland (NMI),
Japan (CIT), United States (NIST), India (NPL) and South Africa
(NML, SABS). Currently, Mr Ranganai is an active member of the Southern
Africa Developing Community Cooperation on Measurement Traceability
(SADCMET) Chemical Metrology Workgroup and is a trained internal
quality auditor. Mr Ranganai is also a member of National Laboratories
Association of Zimbabwe (NLAZ) as well as a Consultant to the Zimbabwe
National Authority (ZIMNA) for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC),
representing SIRDC. Mr Ranganai has had publications in the Technology
Monitor and Journal of Clay and Clay Minerals as well as presenting
in several International Scientific Conferences.

and M.Ed. from University of Zimbabwe; Microcomputer Technology
(City &Guilds)
He is the Head of Dimensional Metrology Department of SIRDC –
NMI and is responsible for the maintenance and dissemination of
the National Dimensional measurement Standards. Before joining SIRDC
Mr. B. Gandah was a Senior Lecturer at Belvedere Technical Teachers’
College where he taught Applied Physics, Electrotechnology and Mechanics
of Machines in the Science and Mechanical Engineering Sections.
He has been involved in the calibration of instruments in industrial,
Mining, Medical, commercial and public sectors. Mr Gandah is a key
member who has developed and delivered training courses in Dimensional
Metrology, Electrical Metrology and General Metrology to Factory
and Laboratory personnel in Zimbabwe. He is an expert in Length
measurements, Angular measurements, Surface Texture, Diameter measurements,
Reference Planes (Flatness), Roundness etc; and is also involved
in the upgrading of current measurement systems. His research interests
include Laser measurement systems, Instrument Automation, and Development
of PLC Calibration Routines for lengths, positions and other physical
quantities.
